The Hamburg-Cruiser company history
When Susanne and Frank Mechling were expecting their second child in 2005, a VW T5 bus was quickly purchased for dog Flocke and the growing family. And every time friends or relatives visited Hamburg, they were put in the VW bus and Frank presented Hamburg with missionary zeal.
“This is really fun, we can offer this professionally as a second pillar of our PR and event agency,” thought the two trained journalists. And so the first individual city tour began on Christmas Day 2006 with Frank as driver guide.
Die Hamburg-Cruiser was able to quickly gain a foothold, particularly in the business customer sector, and discovered that the requested trips were of course not always only for up to six people.
So the passionate Hamburger got his bus driver’s license. In 2008, the first VW LT converted into a bus for up to 15 guests was put into operation and the Mechlings hired their first driver, the late Rüdiger Plett.
At the same time, customer inquiries were not limited to Hamburg and not just to city tours and Hamburg programs. From 2009, for example, various Chinese delegations traveled through half of Europe and regularly to Paris and Amsterdam.
So the Hamburg cruisers became a little bigger step by step. The first “real” coach was a Mercedes Tourino in 2010 – followed by the first 49-seater (MAN Lion’s Coach) in 2012. At the same time, the team grew to include great drivers, most of whom already had years of experience.
